Cockpit Halloween Special more

I have already established and know that type/layout are by no means my strong point.
I will work on them more throughout the year and the briefs I am currently work on give me the chance to experiment more with it but as this isn't a 'long' brief or one that I have written for the module, I didn't want to spend much more time on it, and I just needed to add the mandatory information.

I didn't want to just type 'Slam Dunk halloween special - Cancer Bats - at The Cockpit'
So I chose to go with the existing artwork that they have for the Slam Dunk side of their business and the signage for The Cockpit.

For the remainder of the type, I thought computer generated, pre existing fonts would look too much like I had stuck it on there at the last minute, so I hand-rendered it, which as mentioned in a previous post - I think works well for the info at the bottom.

The 'Halloween Special' that I mocked up on the previous post was the aspect that I really didn't like about it, so I changed it to similar type to whats at the bottom of the page. Its simple but it says what it needs to say...however, the red in pretty unreadable.

Once I had added the 'Slam dunk' and 'The cockpit' to it - I was pretty comfortable with the layout, in terms of the type working with the image. It was then just a case of what colours to use.

I experimented with taking the outline off the illustration (evidently it was a quick test and it erased his legs aswell) but stylistically it looks quite effective, in my opinion, however I don't think I'll pursue for this particular piece.

I found it really hard to decide on a colour for the other type elements which would make it fit with the rest of the poster but still be readable - I'm not sure if the colours I have chosen work in terms of readability and the layout of 'Slam dunk' and 'halloween special' is annoying me the more that I look at it.

I experimented with the colour of the drips on the Cancer Bats logo as I thought red/blood could be too predictable but then only other appropriate colour that I thought could work in terms of linking to halloween, was green and I don't think it looked...good.

This probably looks the same as the above image...but the 'Halloween special' is a little bolder with spots/spray around it - I think this looks better than the really thin type.

This was another layout that I sketched when I was thinking of intial ideas - I thought I would try it to see if it did work and...I didn't add everything because I didn't think it worked.

At the moment, this is my final design - I made 'The cockpit' a little thicker so it was easier to read. I think it works quite well...but I probably will end up tweaking it.
