Even though its not a love story...it is still the theme of the book and the quotes aren't depressing, they're just honest...so I don't want it to look all doom and gloom. For this reason, I wanted to experiment with a kind of ribbon typeface. I have seen quite a bit of it about recently (VolumeOne on context blog has some pieces) so I thought it could look good and be contextually relevant.
This was a first attempt...and evidentally I need to work on it more! It looks more like a...squiggle, nothing like a ribbon really!
